Whatever it was, she needs to keep this momentum going because "Criminal" might just be Britney's best video in the "Femme Fatale" era.
Okay, we'll admit that it gets a little too intimate at points. You see, the concept of the video is Britney's sexual fantasy involving her real-life boyfriend Jason. After her preppy, aristocratic date gets abusive, Jason (the "Criminal") storms in out of the darkness and rescues Brit-Brit from harm -- but not before the pop princess has a chance to give him one last good kick in the groin. From there, it's a life of motorcycles, crime and steamy shower sex.
Sure, Beyonce and Jay-Z may have done it first, but Brit and Jason put their own spin on the troubled love story.
Even though there's been some controversy surrounding the "Criminal" video, which was shot in London after the riots and features Britney robbing a convenient store with a gun, it's pretty hard to take a Britney video seriously. It's all just fun and games -- and a lot of sex. Seriously, at one point, we thought we were watching a clip from Brit and Jason's ... um, private video.
Sure, there's not a lot of dancing, but we weren't really expecting any. There are some fierce arm movements though. And seeing Britney tell someone off by saying, "You're not working the street corner tonight, I see," made us believe that maybe, just maybe, the old, playful Britney is back.
